U.S. weather next week is set to vary by region, according to the National Weather Service’s (NWS) 6-10 day outlook published Thursday.
The big picture: July started on the back of a record-breaking heatwave that drove Yelp searches for “HVAC” and “Air conditioning” up 33 and 16 percent, respectively, in June compared to last year, according to the company’s monthly trend tracker.
What’s happening: The NWS forecasts a 33 to 70 percent chance that temperatures across the middle part of the country will dip below ‘normal’ — the 30-year average for any given period — from Wednesday through Sunday.
- But the opposite is true for the Northeast and Pacific Northwest, where the probability of above-normal temperatures exceeds 50 percent, per the outlook.
- The remaining regions, including the Southeast, are expected to see near-normal or slightly-above-normal temperatures.

Zoom out: Despite the mixed, immediate-term forecast, the agency’s late-July outlook paints a stronger nationwide demand picture, with nearly every state facing at least a 33 percent chance of above-normal temperatures from July 19 to August 1.
