July HVAC shipments up 22%
Central AC and heat pump shipments rose 22% year-over-year in July, and year-to-date shipments increased by 3% from 2023
July AC and heat pump shipments jumped 22% year-over-year, according to AHRI’s latest figures, released on Friday.
Why it matters: There were concerns heading into this year that total shipments would further decline from 2023, which saw a 17% drop from 2022.
-
But that’s not the case so far: From January to July, shipments increased by 3% from 5.59 million in 2023 to 5.76 million in 2024.
Details: July alone saw 1.04 million combined air conditioners and heat pumps shipped, up 22% from last year.
-
Gas furnace shipments also rose 20%, compared to last July, to 255,000.
What’s next: 2025 looks promising, especially given that 2010 was the start of a 12-year growth run — and shipments from 15 years ago are a proxy for the current year’s replacement market.
-
AHRI is expected to release August shipments on October 11.
