SmartAC.com, a remote monitoring startup, this morning announced a partnership with Wrench Group.

  • Catch up: SmartAC.com provides contractors with sensors for $10/month per “kit” to proactively monitor homeowners’ HVAC and plumbing equipment, often bundled with their membership programs.

  • Read the backstory

What’s happening: Wrench Group, which owns over 20 home service contractors across 15 states, will roll out SmartAC.com’s technology at two locations to start: Parker & Sons (AZ) and Abacus Plumbing (TX).

  • “We are excited about this new partnership… and since it does not require our customers to change out their thermostat, we believe all our customers can benefit from the technology,” said Ken Haines, Wrench Group CEO.

  • “We look forward to expanding it across our platform,” he added.

  • No timeline was provided, and SmartAC.com declined to comment on deal terms.

Why it matters: Wrench Group’s contractors, once onboarded, will be able to leverage a 24/7 stream of monitoring data through a dashboard that integrates with ServiceTitan to address customer issues before they become emergencies.

  • “This proactive approach leads to fewer expensive service calls for homeowners, reduces downtime, [and] extends the life of their equipment,” the press release says.

The bottom line: The partnership is a vote of confidence for both SmartAC.com and, although it’s nothing new, remote monitoring technology at large.
