Reddit is considering Google-like search ads
The move would add available real estate for contractors to reach customers

Social news site Reddit is thinking about selling search ads, the company said on a recent call.
The big picture: Reddit has over 100,000 active “subreddits” (topic-specific forums) where tens of millions of U.S. visitors interact daily.

Reddit users, for example, will ask for recommended contractors in their cities’ subreddit, where they can see and reply to no-fluff comments in real time.
What’s happening: The company’s considering selling ad space on its search results pages to boost revenue.

The move would provide existing advertisers, which include local businesses, more targeting opportunities.

“Over the long term, there’s significant advertising potential there,” said CEO Steve Huffman.
Why it matters: If Reddit moves forward, it would expand the digital real estate available for contractors to reach customers in their service area, complementing Google, Facebook, and other channels.
What to watch for: While the company signaled its intentions, it hasn’t yet disclosed details on timing, format, or pricing.
