U.S. shipments of both gas and electric residential water heaters dropped in March, compared to last year, AHRI reported Friday.
What’s happening: Shipments of residential gas storage water heaters fell 2.9 percent year-over-year during the month, while electric water heater shipments declined by 5.7 percent.
- Zoom out: From January to March, residential gas water heater shipments are down 7.7 percent compared to the same period last year, and shipments of electric water heaters are down seven percent.
Catch up quick: In 2025, combined residential water heater shipments landed roughly flat year-over-year, with a modest uptick in shipments of gas water heaters offset by a slight decline in electric water heater shipments.
