HVAC and plumbing association PHCC is awarding 66 scholarships worth a combined $152,000 to students pursuing trades careers — the most it has ever awarded in a single year, according to a Wednesday announcement.
What’s happening: The winners, selected by PHCC’s Educational Foundation, include 43 apprentices and trade school students, plus 23 college students whose studies are related to the industries.
- Several new scholarships were funded by Home Depot and warranty company HomeServe as part of their ‘Skilled Trades Initiative,’ aimed at expanding the labor force.

What they’re saying: “We are so happy to provide these awards that make entering a career in the trades easier,” Foundation Chair Patrick Wallner said in a statement.
- “Plumbing is not just a job for me — it is my career path,” wrote apprentice Brian Hoisington. “I am an apprentice now advancing to the position of installer, and this scholarship will help me achieve that next step in my professional growth.”
What’s next: Applications for next year’s scholarships will open in January, with all submissions due by May 1.
