North Carolina joins 11 states, launches IRA rebates

North Carolina on Thursday launched its Home Energy Rebates programs under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), joining 11 other states with live programs. 

  • Catch up: The IRA earmarked nearly $9 billion to reimburse homeowners who make energy-efficient HVAC upgrades. Details

What’s happening: Since October 31, the number of states with active rebate programs has grown from nine to twelve, including Washington D.C., and now North Carolina. 

  • Zoom in: All remaining states, excluding South Dakota, which won’t be participating, have been awarded funds from the Department of Energy, as of January 17, but haven’t launched their programs yet.

What’s next: While Congress may target certain programs under the IRA, all 50 states (and D.C.), since they’ve either launched rebate programs or received funding, are expected to proceed as planned.
