Local Services Ads to launch on Google Maps app

Google recently announced it’s extending Local Services Ads (LSAs) to the Google Maps app, starting with iPhones.
Why it matters: This expands the surface area in which contractors’ LSAs are displayed, boosting visibility to potential customers.
What’s happening: The update was spotted by an SEO analyst who tweeted an email he received from Google.

“We wanted to let you know that we’re launching ads on Google Maps to help advertisers like you get more leads,” the email says.

Google will automatically create and display the ads. “We’ll use your business’ existing ad data and user reviews to create these ads… You don’t need to share any additional data or details with us,” it adds.

Billing and pricing will remain the same as Search.
Of note: To opt out of Map placements, a contractor has to shut off LSAs entirely.

“[I]f you do not want your ads to show up on Google Maps, you can stop your Local Services ads. Please note that this will also stop your ads on Search,” says Google.
The bottom line: The move aims to catch customers who primarily use the Maps app to find contractors, instead of Search.

Google plans to expand beyond the iOS version of Maps in the future.
