"With a lot of difficult weather comps across the country during the next couple of months, we need that summer magic to cook up some demand"

HVAC association HARDI on Monday released its latest monthly Trends report, showing that sales by its distributor members fell 4.8 percent year-over-year in May.
Of note: This May had “one less billing day” than May 2025, according to the release, which estimated that sales would have been “about flat or comparable year-to-year” with the same number of billing days.
- Meanwhile, annualized sales — comparing the 12 months through May 2026 with the 12 months through May 2025 — were up 2.6 percent.
What they’re saying: “An early start to cooling season got sales off and running in our Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions,” HARDI analyst Brian Loftus said in a statement. (HARDI distributor sales in April rose 4.5 percent year-over-year.)
- “With a lot of difficult weather comps across the country during the next couple of months, we need that summer magic to cook up some demand or our annual sales growth will remain in the low single-digit range,” he added.
