With the midterm elections on the horizon, every politician wants to cut through the noise — you’re getting flyers in the mail and seeing commercials on TV. But what is the roofing industry doing?
What’s happening: Public Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings reveal two primary financial players in the upcoming elections: The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and Diane Hendricks, owner of ABC Supply.
- The NRCA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) — which pools member money to back campaigns — has contributed over $300,000 to 83 candidates and other PACs since 2025, according to federal data and association representatives.
- Meanwhile, Hendricks is a massive Republican donor, contributing $25 million to the MAGA PAC and more than $800,000 to the Republican National Committee. She ranks 27th in top donors for this election cycle, according to the Washington Post.
- Representatives for the NRCA told Homepros that they prioritize several key policy issues when choosing candidates to back: Tax codes, workforce development, immigration reform, and affordable housing, a new area of emphasis.

The big picture: Republicans hold majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, with Democrats aiming to flip that in the midterms. November’s elections will determine whether President Trump retains full legislative backing to execute his agenda in the final two years of his term.
Zoom in: The NRCA has supported 79 individual candidates in the current election cycle, several of whom face tough races to maintain their seats:
- Tom Barrett, a Republican House Rep. in Michigan, has supported bills to employ veterans and promote tax cuts for small businesses.
- Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, which funds many government initiatives, including career and technical education.
- Republican Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio is supporting local workers as data centers pop up throughout his state.
What they’re saying: Brad Stine, director of federal affairs at the NRCA, said the association often focuses on candidates who hold leadership roles on committees, including the House Budget Committee and the Ways and Means Committee, which play key roles in funding policy initiatives.
- “You’ve heard the old adage: ‘If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.’ If we’re not having those conversations, someone else is,” he said.
- A committee of NRCA members helps oversee the PAC, helping direct dollars toward key issues.
- “It’s all about who’s doing what for the issues that we care about,” Stine added, noting that the PAC has become increasingly bipartisan in recent years. As early as 2018, the PAC exclusively donated to Republican candidates, according to OpenSecrets.
Of note: Roofers Local 30, the union spanning Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia, has contributed over $809,000 since 2025, but has only supported three federal candidates.
Looking ahead: The NRCA will hold its member meeting in Nashville a week after the midterm elections, where it’ll present a report on how its candidates fared at the polls.
