Residential gas, electric water heater shipments dip in April
The figures — for both residential water heater types — have fallen every month this year, compared to last year

U.S. shipments of both gas and electric residential water heaters fell in April, compared to last year, according to AHRI data released Friday.
What’s happening: Shipments of gas storage water heaters dipped 1.6 percent year-over-year during the month to roughly 361,000 units, while electric water heater shipments decreased by 4.3 percent to just over 430,000 units.
The big picture: The figures — for both residential water heater types — have fallen every month this year, compared to last year.
- From January through April, gas water heater shipments totaled about 1.44 million units, down 6.2 percent year-over-year, while electric water heater shipments totaled roughly 1.66 million units, down 6.4 percent.
State of play: In 2025, combined residential water heater shipments landed roughly flat compared to 2024, with a modest uptick in shipments of gas water heaters offset by a slight decline in electric water heater shipments.
