Consumers using AI company Anthropic’s popular chat tool, Claude, can now hire home service contractors without leaving the platform.

What’s happening: Home services marketplace Thumbtack on Thursday announced a new integration with Claude, enabling users to receive tailored recommendations for local contractors following inquiries about home maintenance, repairs, or upgrades.

  • Thumbtack counts more than 300,000 service businesses in its network, the company says, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors across the U.S.

What they’re saying: “Homeowners are increasingly turning to AI to figure out what their homes need,” Michael Kim, VP of Business Development at Thumbtack, said in a statement.

  • “By integrating Thumbtack into Claude, we’re making it easy for them to confidently take the next step to get their projects done,” he added.

Of note: Asking Claude to find a contractor surfaces Google Maps recommendations by default; the Thumbtack integration requires enabling its “connector.”

The big picture: As AI adoption skyrockets, marketplaces like Thumbtack are aiming to drive searchers to contractors. For example, TaskRabbit last week announced a similar integration with Claude, Thumbtack and Angi have struck integrations with ChatGPT, and Yelp recently rolled out a series of AI-related updates.
