U.S. combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps rose 4.6 percent year-over-year in March, AHRI reported Friday.
Why it matters: That marks the second consecutive month of year-over-year growth in combined shipments, following a nine-month streak of declines that ended with February’s gain.
Go deeper: Shipments of air conditioners, in particular, grew 0.1 percent year-over-year during the month, while heat pump shipments rose 9.8 percent.
- Still, air conditioners outsold heat pumps in raw volume, at roughly 436,000 units compared to nearly 420,000 heat pumps.
Zoom out: Combined shipments from January to March totaled just under 1.94 million units, down 6.8 percent from the same period in 2025.
