HVAC shipments rise for fourth straight month in May
Shipments of air conditioners, in particular, drove the month’s trend, growing 10.2 percent year-over-year, per AHRI

U.S. combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps in May rose 6.7 percent year-over-year, according to AHRI data released Friday.
Why it matters: That marks the fourth consecutive month in which combined shipments grew compared to the prior year, following a nine-month streak of declines that began in May 2025.
Zoom in: Shipments of air conditioners, in particular, drove the month’s trend, growing 10.2 percent year-over-year, while heat pump shipments increased by 2.3 percent.
Year-to-date: From January to May, combined A/C and heat pump shipments totaled roughly 3.69 million units, down 1.2 percent from the same period in 2025.
- Of note: Gas furnace shipments, not reflected in the visual above, are down 10.5 percent from the same stretch last year.
Looking ahead: AHRI will release June’s shipment figures on the second Friday of August.
