Residential water heater shipments slip in January
Shipments of gas water heaters declined by 11.6 percent year-over-year during the month, while electric water heater shipments slid 4.6 percent

U.S. shipments of residential storage water heaters fell to start the year, AHRI reported Friday.
What’s happening: Shipments of gas water heaters declined by 11.6 percent year-over-year in January, to just over 328,000 units, while electric water heater shipments slid 4.6 percent to roughly 381,000 units.
Zoom in: The figures also fell compared to December 2025, with gas and electric water heater shipments down 21.5 and 17.5 percent month-over-month, respectively.
State of play: In 2025, the market landed roughly flat, as a modest increase in shipments of gas water heaters compared to 2024 was offset by a slight decline in electric water heater shipments.
